반복강박 2022
일정한 시간에 일어나서 씻고 식사를 하고 작업 전 잠깐의 시간동안 오늘 해야 할 작업들을 체크한 후 하루를 시작한다. 거의 비슷한 패턴의 반복에서 벗어나는 경우가 드물다. 전날 과음을 하고서도 어김없이 비슷한 시간이 이어진다. 어쩌다 이런 흐름이 깨지면 불안하다. 반복은 내게 안정감을 준다. 색색의 빨대 패턴이 어느 방향으로 향하는지 알 수 없다. 내게 작업의 시작은 있었으나 다음 진행은 딱히 정해지지 않았으니 어느 지점에 도달할지 알 수 없다.
캔버스위에 조각조각 이어 붙여 다양한 색으로 구성된 작품은 회화의 물감대신 우리가 소비하는 플라스틱 빨대로 대체 하였다. 주로 입체물로 공간을 확장하는 작업을 해왔던 방식대신 캔버스라는 한정된 틀에서 패턴화된 문양을 표현하였다. 또 다른 입체물인 ‘혼자서 당당히’는 어려움을 이겨내고 당당히 나아가자는 희망의 메시지이다. 하지만 혼자서 당당히는 복제되어 반복의 틀 안에 가두어지는 모순을 보여준다. 모두가 자유로울 수 있지만, 많은 제약들은 자유로움 보다는 안정된 구속을 강요받고 혹은 스스로 선택한다.
